Develop awareness, composure and practical skills for responding to real-world situations with greater confidence.
The truth is, there’s no way to know when you might face real-world danger in your everyday life. At Alex Martins BJJ, we’re here to make sure you’re prepared.
Our Self-Defense classes are giving everyday men and women across Dallas the chance to develop a core set of skills to protect against any threat. And yeah, we have a great time in the process.
We get it. It’s scary to think about having to use Self-Defense skills in a real-world altercation.
What’s even scarier, though, is having to face that same threat without the preparation needed to stay safe.
At Alex Martins BJJ, we work with teachers, doctors, and lawyers. We train your friends, your neighbors and the everyday people that make up our community.
Effective self-defense is not only a collection of techniques. It begins with awareness, boundaries, de-escalation and the ability to make decisions under pressure. Alex Martins BJJ should present this program as practical training that helps everyday adults and families become more prepared while understanding that avoidance and escape are the priority whenever possible. Our self-defense training combines awareness, boundaries, de-escalation, movement, escapes and controlled partner practice. Students can develop practical skills in a structured environment while learning that avoidance and escape are always priorities. Contact our team to discuss current group, private or family training options.

I travel the majority of the year. So I drop into whatever school looks good in the city that I’m in. Well today I came here and it’s an incredible school. If I lived in Dallas I would’ve signed up. I will also be recommending this academy to my friends if they are traveling to Dallas. 🤘Posted on Google Ben KraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. when in Dallas!! world class jujutsu, fantastic training, space and great people - Very welcoming!Posted on Google harvey giddensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been going to this academy for the past two years. I came here new as a blue belt. The competitiveness, the high-level intentional training, and community are massive pillars for me, and this place meets them with excellence. I love this place and am glad to call it my home academy.Posted on Google MijoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing gym! The staff and professors were all kind and welcoming! I myself came from out of town but they treated me like I was family. The technique was high level and the rolls were intense. If I’m ever in Dallas again I will most definitely visit again! OSS!Posted on Google marshall neipertTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Alex Martins began his martial arts journey in 1997 at just 17 years old, training under Junior Cardoso in Manaus, Brazil. Today he holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and brings over two decades of experience to the mat.
With a passion that has taken him across the globe, Alex has competed extensively to sharpen his technique and expand his knowledge, always pushing to deliver the very best to his students. His teaching goes beyond submissions and sweeps: it’s about building discipline, boosting confidence, and setting people up for success both on and off the mats.
